Overcoming unworthiness

by Endre Hoffmann – Business Mindset Coach.

Feeling unworthy is a common experience that many people go through at some point in their lives. It can be a debilitating feeling that can hold us back from achieving our goals and living our best lives. In this blog post, we will explore overcoming unworthiness by looking at the concept of unworthiness, its causes, and some ways to overcome it.

What is Unworthiness

Unworthy is defined as not deserving of respect, attention, or admiration. It is a feeling that we are not good enough and that we don’t measure up to the standards set by ourselves or others. This feeling can arise from a variety of sources, such as past experiences of failure or rejection, negative self-talk, or comparison to others.

Causes of Unworthiness

One of the main causes of unworthiness is negative self-talk.

Negative self talk and unworthiness

We all have an inner critic that can be harsh and judgmental. This voice can tell us that we are not good enough and don’t deserve happiness or success. The problem with this voice is that it often distorts reality and does not reflect the truth. It is essential to recognize when our inner critic is at work and challenge its negative messages. One way to do this is by practicing self-compassion, which involves treating ourselves with kindness and understanding, just as we would with a good friend. By cultivating self-compassion, we can learn to accept ourselves as we are, flaws and all, and recognize that we are worthy of love and respect.

Another cause of unworthiness is comparison to others.

In today’s society, we are bombarded with images of perfection and success through social media and other media outlets. It is easy to fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to others and feeling inadequate as a result. The problem with this mindset is that it is based on unrealistic expectations and does not consider the unique circumstances and challenges of each individual. It is important to focus on our journey and progress rather than comparing ourselves to others. We can do this by setting realistic goals and celebrating our achievements, no matter how small they may seem.

How Can We Overcome the Feeling of Unworthiness?

One way is by practicing self-care.

Self-care involves taking care of our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. This can include activities such as exercise, meditation, spending time with loved ones, or engaging in hobbies that bring us joy. By taking care of ourselves, we can boost our self-esteem and develop a sense of self-worth.

Another way to overcome unworthiness is by seeking support from others.

It can be helpful to talk to a trusted friend or family member about our feelings and experiences. They can provide a fresh perspective and offer encouragement and support. Additionally, seeking professional help from a therapist or counselor can be beneficial in addressing the underlying causes of unworthiness and developing strategies to overcome them.
